Ich bin ein Berliner

Sleek Events spent four days in Berlin finding out what makes this a fantastic city for both business and social gatherings. Classic is definitely the word of the weekend with flourishes of the contemporary – all organised by Meeting Place Berlin.

Car lovers paradise

Classic Remise was an original backdrop for our welcome party. Showcasing a huge selection of classic cars, this is the perfect venue for automobile enthusiasts but be warned, with a capacity of 600 you’ll need a lot of friends to give this place a party atmosphere due to its vast space. We loved the outdoor area with a BBQ, the unique classic-car photo booth, the amazing band JCB (Just a Cools Band) plus the bratwurst from Classic Driver Food Concept was the best we’ve ever tasted!

Keep motoring on

The car theme continued on day two of our visit but this time we got to motor around the city on a Trabi Safari. The Trabant is often seen as the perfect symbol of the old East Germany and, whilst being quite an uncomfortable, noisy car, it has also become a popular vehicle since the fall of the Berlin wall. Our tour of the city was narrated by the lead driver via radio and we can’t think of a better or more fun way of seeing the city.

Vandal or artist?

Art critic Emilie Trice called Berlin “the graffiti Mecca of the urban art world”. Street art in Berlin is a big industry. Although it’s not exactly legal, the city’s title of UNESCO’s City of Design has kept local authorities from doing much to eradicate or halt the graffiti which attracts tourists and their money! We went to YAAM club and beach bar to try our hand at some graffiti.

We were shown a part of the original Berlin wall before being challenged to create a graffiti wall of our own depicting our “idea of Berlin”. We suited up in protective gear and spent an enjoyable hour spray painting in what we can only describe as one of the most fun group activities we’ve ever tried but we’re not sure it would work so well if it was raining!

On a Spree

Our next stop, we heard the word “Spree” and thought we might be off shopping but we were actually treated to a boat trip on the River Spree. The Stralau is an exclusive lounge ship and just one of the fleet owned by Schiffskontor. Their boats can be docked almost anywhere along the river making this an ideal solution for events using multiple locations looking for a luxurious alternative to taxis.

Floris Catering Berlin blew us away with their menu and service from the moment we boarded the Stralau. After champagne and canapes, the lunch was presented as a working buffet so we could see how their river tours can act as a business as well as social venue. Menu highlights included gazpacho soup served in mini milk bottles, a polenta canape and a key lime and walnut cake.

Classic meets industrial

BOLLE Festsäle was another great example of historical meets contemporary on our Berlin trip. It has a breathtaking mix of industrial style and antiquated ambience for a venue that can hold over 600 guests. The third floor has a showpiece rooftop bar offering stunning views over the city.

Monopol Catering introduced us to a first for Sleek Events – a cheese linguine created in a huge block of cheese and finished with truffle shavings – yet another classic with a twist!

Bitesize bedrooms

We wanted to check out as many places to sleep as possible in one evening so what better way than to start with aperitifs in one hotel, eating each course in a different hotel suite and finishing with a cup of tea in time to put on our pyjamas? A sensational view from Radisson Blu Hotel Berlin with more great accommodation and hotel facilities from Hotel de Rome, Berlin Marriott Hotel and Grand Hyatt Berlin.

A classic sand castle in the middle of the city

Burying our classic theme on the last day of our visit to Berlin, Meeting Place Berlin said Auf Wiedersehen to us from a beach venue in the middle of the city – which could only be called BeachMitte. Now you can combine a city break with a beach break!

With volleyball courts, a giant climbing frame, fire pits and deckchairs, you can choose to chill out or burn some calories. This is a great location for team bonding or a party with attitude – day or night.

Bis zum nächsten mal – until next time… keep up with #SleekHQ:
